New directory traversal CVE!
CVE-2026-108597 - https://www.cve.org/CVERecord?id=CVE-2026-108597
cohere-ai - cohere-python
Cohere Python SDK 5.11.0 through 7.2.0 contains a path traversal (tar slip) vulnerability in _s3_models_dir_to_tarfile that allows arbitrary file write via unvalidated tarfile.extractall calls. Attackers who can write model archives to the victim's S3 prefix can include absolute paths or ../ members to overwrite files on the SDK host.

"Flag of Bloke": well, clearly.
@lw huh wonder if I can get one of these, it’s basically telemarking my favourite form of skiing to do
@alexchapman @stevenscott I've been wanting to build this for a while. The price will, ideally, come out to no more than $200, and the softwaare will be fully signed and secure, using features like full disk encryption, verified boot, and slot-based updates to make it almost impossible for a user to break.
@fireborn Oh wow that's good. @stevenscott
I’ve been trying for days but can’t really get into “the long way to a small angry planet” by Becky Chambers #books
@farah I felt the same. In theory, I should have loved it. I wanted to love it. But I couldn't get into it. Given how much other people love it, I'm assuming it was a me problem - that I wanted to read something else at that point - so I'll revisit it at a later date. Maybe.
@ryanprior 🙈 sorry I shouldn't swear oh no. but yes please believe we're trying our best!
@pomagarnet @ryanprior Looks like we're all friends now and I hope this goes well. All of us are passionate and human, and of course sensitive. Good to be real with each other. Nice to meet you both, go well! 😄
@datn I liked it! What did you think?
@willowbl00 what about you?
yeah. i'm thinking about it and a cam on the doorway-bough that captured comings and goings would bother me much less than inside the nest box, but i'm also not at all motivated to do that. (even that still reminds me of those ring cameras, which creep me out every time i take a walk here, speaking of consent!) (i might be persuadable that there is *some* reason to accept nest cams for certain circumscribed reasons--but only care-fully)
And this is ultimately the test. Goose. Gander. What, exactly, is our motivation? Just why are we entitled to access?
Because the question is most certainly about us, not those we might observe.

I mean brey - every socialist reading group in America larger than about five people has a fed in it. And that was BEFORE Dipshit Hitler took over.
I'm not saying you gotta live your life in fear - but they ARE gunning for you and it does no good to simply pretend they aren't.

Some lovely pink and green glowing #aurora skies - visible with the naked eye in our bit of the #YorkshireDales - stars very bright too - big dipper and green glow just taken on my phone. Will be lots of much better pictures out there than mine!
Despite its name, the DEFEND IP Act would instead incentivize censorship, overblocking, and bad faith attempts to block access to a website. https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2026/10/site-blocking-will-not-defend-ip-no-matter-bills-name
Site-blocking isn’t just theoretically dangerous. Italy’s system blocked hundreds of innocent websites. Spain’s swept up domains belonging to Greenpeace and Harvard. Now Congress wants to bring this to the U.S. https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2026/10/congress-has-another-site-blocking-bill-and-one-targets-vpns
@eff woo incredible pss what happen in the world hehe I have two read it twice
I hate Matrix chat so much.
Every now and then, some nerd explains why we should all be using Matrix for group chat. It happened a lot with the E2EE project.
But Matrix is what you get when you leave the engineers alone in a room for too long.
Its “everything but the kitchen sink” design philosophy leads to over-built garbage. Meanwhile, *basic things* are fundamentally broken, like unread counts.
UNREAD COUNTS, for fucks’ sake. Until that works right, using Matrix is absolute torture.
@benpate I really want matrix to work, I really do... but man I _hate_ using it.
They need some UX designers to take over product development for the next decade.
When KDE was at its worst, I could still enjoy the user experience, but matrix is another beast. I get such weird problems in both android and desktop versions of element that I don't even know where to begin.
The other clients aren't even on my radar, because last I checked none of them could do calls.
hello, if you can see this.. could you boost this post to help me federate this server
thanks 😁
@rolle @Omega_Scribet @Franka @wieland a very big thank you!
@MarloesdeKoning You're welcome 🙏 @Omega_Scribet @Franka @wieland
Rest easy, dad. Thanks for showing me how to be kind. ❤️🩹
@wxhbxh (presuming I'm interpreting this post correctly) sorry for your loss 😔
